Dental Implants NYC

Q: For NYC residents: When is the least expensive tooth replacement method really the most expensive?

A: When it ends up costing far more in the long run.

Many NYC dentistry clients who lose a tooth do not understand the importance of replacing it with a dental implant. They wrongly believe that one missing tooth is not a significant problem. In fact, some NYC people who have an abscessed tooth extracted are so glad the pain is gone that they forget that the extraction is not the solution. When a tooth is lost, the risk of losing the adjacent teeth increases dramatically.

Dr. David Scharf, a Board Certified Periodontist and Dental Implant Surgeon and a Clinical Assistant Professor at New York University College of Dentistry says:

“Many times consumers will choose to replace a missing tooth with a removable partial denture because it is the least expensive option. In the long run however, removable partial dentures may be more costly due the loss of adjacent teeth and the need for future replacements. Many people opt to replace teeth with dental implants because they do not compromise the survival of the adjacent teeth.”

Dr. Scharf notes…

“With the price of gasoline and food soaring people try to cut back wherever they can. Unfortunately choosing the least expensive options for tooth replacement can have some very costly ramifications down the road.”

If you are missing a tooth, you may still be able to save the adjacent teeth if receive an implant soon. An implant bonds chemically with the jaw bone and helps maintain its stability.

Attention NYC: Replace Your Dental Bridge Before You Lose Teeth

Attention New York City Replace Your Dental Bridge Before You Lose TeethHello NYC blog visitors, welcome to Marc J. Beshar Dentistry. Let’s talk about a tooth replacement option common in NYC: dental bridges.

While cosmetic dental bridges have restored smiles for thousands of NYC dental patients, they are not problem free. Many NYC people with dental bridges find it impossible to keep the small areas around the bridge clean. This is not surprising because it is hard to get toothbrush bristles or dental floss under the bridge.

Of course bacteria has no trouble moving in and taking over without the cosmetic dental patient even knowing it. When the decay reaches the roots of the surrounding teeth, it is not only painful, the person is at risk of losing those teeth also.

That is one reason why a dental implant is superior to a dental bridge. Most NYC people with missing teeth are great candidates for dental implants.

A dental implant looks just like the beautiful tooth restoration on a high-quality dental bridge, but the important part is what you don’t see.

A dental implant is screwed directly into the jaw bone. It is not attached to teeth like the dental bridges traditionally used in NYC. In a way, a dental implant is a more conservative tooth replacement because it leaves the adjacent teeth intact. The bone and gum tissue mesh permanently with the titanium post that serves as the replacement tooth root.

Dental implants do not have the same decay risk as the teeth that anchor dental bridges. Of course patients with dental implants need to brush and floss, but cleaning a dental implant is usually no more difficult than cleaning a normal tooth.

Dental implants have a far better track record than dental bridges. With proper care, a dental implant can last a lifetime for smile-smart NYC folks.

If you currently have a dental bridge, you might consider permanently replacing it with a dental implant before the adjacent teeth are threatened with decay.

At Marc J. Beshar Dentistry, dental implants can replace one or more teeth and can also serve as anchors for full or partial dentures. No more embarrassing slipping!

NYC Tooth Restoration: Dental Implants and Dental Bridges

New York City Dental Implants and Dental Bridges When my NYC clients ask me about NYC tooth restoration, I usually tell them about fixed (or ‘traditional’) dental bridges or dental implants. A dental bridge is an artificial tooth which replaces a missing tooth. The false tooth (called a ‘pontic’) is fused to dental crowns on either side of the missing tooth.

Tooth replacement has been a highly requested procedure at my NYC dental practice. Patients from the NYC area have expressed concern about tooth replacement for many years. Most of my questions in the NYC area have to do with the strength of the tooth replacement, and durability.

Dental implants are also popular concern for my NYC tooth replacement patients. A dental implant consists of a titanium post surgically inserted into the jaw bone to replace the root of the missing tooth. The post integrates with the bone to provide a stable foundation for the replacement tooth.

After it has bonded with the bone (it usually takes three to six months), a smaller post is attached. This post extends above the gum line. The artificial tooth (crown) is then attached. The entire process takes several months, but consistently yields terrific results for New York City tooth restoration patients. My New York cosmetic dentistry patients appreciate the fact that I stay up to date on the latest advancements in tooth replacement procedures.

Both NYC smile restoration options preserve or restore facial contour and allow you to talk and eat normally. Tooth replacements prevent adjoining teeth from gradually shifting and can help correct bite problems, too. Tooth implants and dental bridges can replace one or more missing teeth. Many New York City area dental patients have been treated successfully with these tooth restoration alternatives.

Dental Implants In New York

Cosmetic Dentistry The best permanent tooth replacement treatment available to New York people who are missing teeth are dental implants.

A dental implant is a metal (ideally titanium) rod implanted into the bone to replace the missing root. The crown and supporting structure are securely and permanently attached to the rod. Titanium is amazingly strong and extremely well tolerated by the human body. There are very few instances of rejection. In fact, most New York implant dentists are not familiar with any such cases.

Dental implants offer a long-term solution to tooth loss. Are you a candidate for tooth implant surgery?

Because the metal rod is anchored into the jaw bone, it is essential that you have enough healthy bone at the implant site. Dr. Marc Beshar can determine if you do.

Age is rarely a factor. Dental implants have proved to be successful for people of all ages. Marc Beshar provides comprehensive dental care for every member of the family.

There are a few medical issues that may affect your eligibility for dental implants. These include diabetes, osteoporosis, radiation therapy for cancer, parathyroid disorders, bone disorders and leukemia. The presence of one or more of these conditions does not necessarily mean an implant cannot work for you; discuss any health issues with Marc Beshar during your implant consultation.

Marc J. Beshar Dentistry is located at 25 Central Park W #1C New York, NY 10023 in New York. Call 646-434-1238 to schedule an implant consultation.

What Does A Missing Tooth Say About You?

New York Mini-Implants When you meet someone in New York City who is missing a front tooth, what does that say to you? Do you wonder if they were in an accident? Do you automatically start making assumptions about their income, level of education and overall physical health?

Though it is extremely unfair, we are often judged (and misjudged) by our appearance. Even if a person is impeccably dressed and groomed, a missing front tooth detracts from the overall pleasing impression.

Here is a personal story from a woman who lost a tooth:

I lost my job and along with it my dental insurance, then a month later, one of my front teeth. It has been very hard to find work…. and I know the missing tooth has cost me several jobs.”

A missing tooth can be a big deal.

Dental implants not only restore oral health, they restore self-confidence. Dental implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth. Studies have shown that after more than 20 years, the vast majority of dental implants placed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons continue to function at peak performance. If properly cared for, dental implants can last a lifetime.

Dental implants are one of the procedures we routinely perform at Marc J. Beshar Dentistry to help our New York City clients regain the beautiful smile they once had. Not all cosmetic dental procedures are as extreme as dental implants. There are many minimally-invasive remedies for unattractive smiles.

Porcelain veneers instantly provide a perfect, gleaming tooth surface for New York City clients with broken or discolored teeth. Tooth whitening is a quick and affordable dentistry procedure in New York City that achieves dramatic results without requiring the removal of any tooth structure. Call Marc J. Beshar Dentistry at 646-434-1238 for more information about smile design and restorative dentistry.

Hate Your Dentures?

New York Dentistry Implant Perhaps you have heard or seen the Midtown dental industry’s advertising about dental implants. Most Midtown dentists claim that dental implant dentures can change your life. Does this sound like hype? Exaggeration?

Let’s look at the facts about dental implant anchored dentures in New York:

Chewing: An oral implant denture can restore up to 95 percent of normal chewing function. How important is chewing? Can you chew easily with your current full or partial denture? Can you bite apples? When was the last time you ate a raw carrot?

Fit: Implant anchored dentures stay in place. An implant denture doesn’t slide around in your mouth and cause sores. Midtown implant denture wearers who exercise regularly especially appreciate this benefit.

Appearance: How does your smile look? Can you smile confidently? How many Midtown denture wearers love their smile? Implant anchored dentures look like natural teeth. They don’t move when you smile, eat, talk, bike, swim, dance, golf, ski; you get the idea.

Bone health: When teeth are extracted, bone recession can occur over time (in fact, this happens in almost every case). Because a titanium implant is an artificial ‘tooth root’ inserted into your jaw bone, your bone has a better chance of staying healthy. If there are no other adverse conditions present, your jaw bone should remain strong and dense, just as if the original tooth root were there.

If you hate your dentures and live in Midtown or New York City, why don’t you come in for a consultation about dental implants and mini-implants with implant dentist Dr. Marc Beshar? We can discuss all the particulars including procedure specifics, healing time and dental implant cost. Then you can decide for yourself implant dentures will, as promised, change your life.  We offer cosmetic dentistry services in the Midtown area.
