A recent study published in General Dentistry found that irreversible damage to tooth enamel results from increased levels of sports and energy drink consumption. Many people, particularly adolescents and young adults that are the primary market for such drinks, don’t realize the high acidity of these drinks and the tooth damage that can result.
Due to the high acidity, as well as the sugar content of many of these drinks, NYC dentist Dr. Beshar recommends limiting the consumption of such drinks in order to preserve tooth enamel. Chewing sugar-free gum or rinsing the mouth with water after consuming such drinks is also recommended.
